Long Beach Surprisingly Strong
Long Beach Surprisingly Strong
Article Written June, 2009

Collectors were out in force at the recently concluded Long Beach Coin and Stamp convention. Coins sold briskly at the new buyer-friendly levels. The public's psychological adjustment to the "Recession" may have played a part. More likely, inflation looming large on the horizon and the increasing strength of gold and silver is driving savvy investors into tangible assets.
We have not had such a busy Long Beach in well over a year. After a spookily quiet Central States earlier in May, it was a pleasant surprise to be busy selling coins again. Demand is currently strongest for Gold of all denominations, Proof Barber and Seated material, Walking Liberty Halves, and Silver Commemoratives. The best values right now are in gem, mint state Capped Bust, Seated and Barber material which remain largely underappreciated.
The majority of today's buyers are advanced collectors encouraged by the dip in prices or those assembling long term collections and accustomed to market fluctuations. We were able to locate quite a few wonderful coins while at the show and associated auctions. As usual, the majority of our purchases go directly to clients with want lists on file, so please let us know if there are specific items you want to be called on before they hit our website.
We are taking a break from shows the rest of June, but will be gearing up for next month's always exciting ANA, this year held in Los Angeles. We will be participating in all of the pre-ANA and ANA auctions, so let us know if you need representation. In the meantime, if you have items or collections to sell, please contact us. Our client base continues to be the biggest and best source for acquiring fabulous material. Thanks for keeping us in mind!
